Log of the merchant ship "Helena" kept by Capt. D. Pulaski Benjamin (1841-1845). Covers three voyages to China from New York, including the maiden voyage. She sailed around Cape Horn, stopping at Valparaiso, Chile and Callao, Peru, and then crossed to Macao and Hong Kong, China. Log records weather, ship's daily position, unusual events such as meetings at sea, severe storms, and running aground on a coral reef; little comment when in port.
